As big banks shed brick-and-mortar branches, it’s never been more important for financial services to reach consumers where they are: their smartphones. In the past three years alone, adoption of mobile banking in Kenya has more than doubled according to a recent report by the Central Bank of Kenya.
In November 2016, Equity Bank launched its Digital Banking offering dubbed Eazzy Banking. The innovative solution which included the Eazzy Banking App was meant to offer customers easy and comprehensive banking experiences to support their financial needs.
With more than 266,000 downloads, Equity Bank’s EazzyBankingPay’ is now Kenya’s most downloaded banking application with the ability to support more than 64 banking services. The app hit a monthly transanction value of Sh 6.5 Billion as of June 2017.
Users can send upto Ksh 1.0 Million per day to other accounts within Equity Bank and up to Ksh 500,000 to any account in other banks. The App has been integrated to over 1,500 paybills including all utility companies like Zuku, DSTV, KPLC, Nairobi Water, schools etc.
One of the best things is that one can borrow up to Ksh 3.0 Million: the process is handled through the App. Through the Eazzy Banking App, sending money to other mobile wallets like M-Pesa & Airtel money has never been easier. Equity obviously has put a lot of time and money into their mobile efforts and it shows. The EazzyBanking App receives regular updates with not just bug fixes, but major new features as well.
That being said, mobile banking technology is still relatively new. And when it comes to creating a digital banking experience that is as simple as a quick trip to the local bank branch, Equity Bank is certainly doing better than others.
