Relief as Millers Confirm No Increase In Prices of Maize Flour

Kenyans can now breathe easy after the Cereal Millers Association announced that they will not be increasing the price of maize flour as earlier indicated.

While speaking in Nairobi, the associations chair Mr Mohammed Islam said, ’’There is no way the price of Unga will go up because we are back to a zero-rated Value Added Tax (VAT) and it can only increase when we have a shortage of maize.’’

The news comes only a few days after the president assent to the finance act 2018 which will see an 8 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on all petroleum products, which saw some private millers slightly increase the prices of their commodity to caution themselves on transport cost.

However, the association through its chair has assured Kenyans of a steady supply of the maize flour which is among the staple foods depended on by millions across the country.

Coming at a time when the association is gearing up to host the 29th Annual International Association of Operative Millers Mideast and Africa Region (IAOM MEA) Conference and Expo, with over 500 delegates in the grain processing industry, grain traders and technology providers are expected to attend this Conference from October 22 to 25 October.
