Qatar Airways is set to buy a 49% stake in Rwandair, Rwanda’s national flag carrier, a move that seeks to grow Qatar Airways’ presence in the continent.
This comes barely months after Qatar acquired a 60% stake in Rwanda’s state-of-the-art Bugesera airport, which is valued at $1.3 billion.
The Middle Eastern airline sees great potential in the African aviation industry and hence the investment according to Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.

In 2018, Rwandair was named among the most improved airlines in the World at World’s Airlines Awards. It currently reaches out to over 26 destinations across East, Central, West and Southern Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Qatar Airways is the state-owned flag carrier of Qatar. Its headquarters are in Doha. The airline operates a hub-and-spoke network, linking over 150 international destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, The Americas, and Oceania from its base at Hamad International Airport, using a fleet of more than 200 aircraft.
