Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on cryptocurrencies on Thursday during his nationwide address, warning that the digital currency must be treated with much care. Putin stressed that cryptocurrencies should not be used in order to make payments or any transactions online. He also called it a bad idea for the accumulation of funds.
Putin also discarded the idea of Russia creating its own cryptocurrency. “Russia can not have its own cryptocurrency by default – just like any other country,” he highlighted, adding that: ” if we talk about the cryptocurrency, it’s something that goes beyond national borders.”
The Russian leader is among a growing number of politicians around the world that have concerns regarding the digital currencies and its spreading popularity across all sectors.
