Pump prices to rise for September

Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has revised the maximum retail pump prices for petroleum products which will be in force from 15th September to 14th October 2019.

Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will now retail at Sh112.81, Sh103.04, and Sh100.64 respectively. In this case, Super Petrol and Diesel increased by Sh 0.28 per litre and Sh 2.44 per litre respectively while Kerosene decreased by Sh3.31.

This month’s pump prices are inclusive of 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with provisions of the Finance Act 2018 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation.

The changes in this month’s prices have been a consequence of the landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreasing by 0.22% from USD498.46 per cubic metre in July 2019 to USD497.36 per cubic metre.

On the other hand, the landed cost for Diesel increased by 4.38% from USD482.47 per cubic metre to USD503.61 per cubic metre while Kerosene decreased by 5.61% from USD513.10 per cubic metre to USD484.29 per cubic metre.

The Free on Board (FOB) price of Murban crude oil lifted in August 2019 was posted at USD62.30 per barrel, a decrease of 5.82% from USD66.15 per barrel in July 2019.

Over the same period, the mean monthly US Dollar to Kenya Shillings exchange rate depreciated by 0.13% from Sh103.31 per USD in July to Sh103.44 in August.
