The cost of refilling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders is set to rise by at least 15%
As Citizen TV reports, the price of refilling a 6kg cylinder will hit KSh1,500, up from an average KSh1,400, while a 13kg cylinder will require KSh3,300, an estimated KSh300 increase.
The surge in prices is mainly driven by an increase in the landed cost this month, the 16% VAT, and a 20% increase in freight charges.
Unlike Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene, LPG prices are not controlled by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). Last month, the Authority retained fuel prices for another month despite a jump in the cost of shipping the commodity, and a decrease in the landed cost.
Thus, super petrol is retailing at KSh129.72 per litre, diesel at KSh110.60 per litre, and Kerosene at KSh103.54
