Kenya and South Africa are among African countries expected at the 11th International Forum ATOMEXPO on April 15–16, 2019, in Russia’s southern city of Sochi. This year’s forum is dedicated to the advanced nuclear technologies’ contribution to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In last year’s forum, the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation’s (Necsa’s) NTP Radioisotopes arm, won the AtomExpo Award for the best project in the non-energy related use of nuclear energy, for their project on converting NTP’s 99Mo process from highly enriched uranium (HEU) to low-enriched uranium (LEU).
Fifty-one organisations from 22 countries submitted their applications for the competition and more are anticipated this year. Within a decade, the forum has transformed itself from a Russian nuclear industry event with occasional participation of foreign partners into a global nuclear industry discussion platform.
The agenda of the ATOMEXPO 2019 covers global issues of carbon-free energy, responsible approach to the environment and natural resources, “green” investments and international partnership for sustainable development.
