Kenyans will pay KSh 5.77 more for a litre of petrol effective June 15, from last month’s KSh 83.33. However, customers will pay less for diesel and kerosene after the prices fell by Ksh 3.80 and Ksh 17.31 respectively. Super petrol will now retail at KSh 89.10 while Diesel and Kerosene will sell at KSh 74.57 and KSh 62.46 in Nairobi.
EPRA revealed that the change in price is as a result of a change in the price of imported fuel. The cost of importing Super Petrol rose by 31.54% from $188.70 per cubic meter in April to $248.21 in May.
The price of diesel fell by 5.58% to $228.62 per cubic meter, whereas Kerosene price fell by 51.84% per cubic meter in May.

Apart from the increase in petrol prices, Kenyans will also pay a higher price for Liquefied Petroleum Gas. The changes are as a result of a looming 14% VAT in the Finance Bill 2020 expected to pass into law on July 1. Further, the rising crude oil prices are likely to reflect on the cost of LPG throughout the country.
Last week, EPRA warned oil marketers against hoarding of petroleum products. The warning came after reports of hoarding were noted in the Western region, which resulted in an artificial shortage of the commodity.
