The Board of Directors of the East African Business Council (EABC) has appointed Hon. Peter Mathuki as acting Executive Director of East African Business Council.
The appointment comes after the resignation of Ms. Lilian Awinja in her capacity as Executive Director of the regional apex body of the Private Sector in the EAC Partner States.
Following his appointment Mr Matheka will be expected to guide and support the EABC Secretariat in strengthening the governmental, legislative and business networks as well as promote membership and resource mobilization for a whole new line of activities.
‘’The Board of Directors is pleased that EABC Ambassador Hon. Peter Mathuki, has agreed to step in as Ag. Executive Director and take over all duties with immediate effect. His expertise and network will play a key role in strengthening the secretariat to advocate and support our vision of a border less East Africa for business and investment.’’ The board said in a statement.
Mr Mathuki on his part said he was looking forward to restoring the energy in the regional integration process, which is supposed to be business driven and people-centred.
Hon. Mathuki had previously served as a Member of the EALA for five years since his election to the East African body from 2012 to 2017 where during his tenure at EALA, he served in the committees of Trade and Investment, Accounts and Finance and Legal Affairs.
The East African Business Council (EABC) is the regional body of Private Sector associations and Corporates from the six East African Countries
Mathuki’s appointment comes in the backdrop of the EAC Single Customs Territory and Mutual Recognition Agreements on professionals services in the EACs which aims to make trade easier within the six member countries.
