Pakistan Lists Tea as an Essential Import

The Pakistan Tea Association has declared Tea as an essential import.

Pakistan is the biggest market for Kenya’s primary export commodity, with the country exporting 50% of the commodity to Pakistan.

Kenya’s revenue from the commodity exports is expected to rise following the approval of US dollars as the transaction currency in the tea industry by the Pakistan Central Bank.

The Agriculture CS, Mithika Linturi, advocated for the commodity to be recognized as an essential international commodity and hailed the new policy to benefit the local economy and farmers.

I am delighted to report that our recent trip to Islamabad has yielded results in just three weeks. I want to thank the Pakistani government for accommodating our requests during the trip.

Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Food Security and Research, Chaudhary Tariq Bashir Cheema, also pledged to enhance bilateral trade between Kenya and Pakistan by eliminating trade barriers in the sector.
