OpenAI has announced a partnership with WildMango to expand access to advanced artificial intelligence technologies across Africa, targeting businesses, startups, developers and public institutions.
- •Under the deal, OpenAI will extend the reach of its AI models and tools across the continent, enabling wider adoption and real-world deployment of AI solutions while WildMango will handle distribution, integration and localization.
- •The initiative will focus on increasing access to OpenAI products, adapting applications to African use cases and equipping enterprises and developers with skills and resources to build AI-driven solutions.
- •It will also support ecosystem growth through partnerships with corporates, startups and research institutions.
“Expanding our capabilities in Africa is important to OpenAI. This partnership with WildMango will enable companies, startups, developers and other institutions to leverage our models and capacity to accelerate growth, efficiency and impact,” said Ben Tyson, Senior Partner Enablement Manager at OpenAI.
The move comes as African governments ramp up efforts to shape the region’s AI future. East African Community (EAC) partner states have committed to establishing a regional AI technologies fund to scale research into commercial solutions, while promoting AI systems built on local languages and data.
The commitments are anchored in the EAC Declaration on Artificial Intelligence adopted at the 4th EAC Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Conference held in Kigali in March–April 2026. The declaration outlines plans for shared digital infrastructure, skills development and regional coordination to strengthen competitiveness in the global digital economy.
