Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) Director of Public Affairs Nuru Mugambi has won the Sheth International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement, joining Georgia State University’s international graduates celebrated for exemplary and longstanding professional reputation of achievement worldwide.
Nuru Mugambi, who graduated from the university’s professional MBA Program in 2008 is celebrated for her contributions to sustainable finance, spearheading inclusivity, and supporting SMEs to better run their business. Ms Mugambi is the brains behind Kenya’s Sustainable Finance Principles and a Capacity Building Program which has trained over 33,000 bankers. Nuru is also one of the drafters of the Kenya Green Economic strategy. She designed and convened the Kenya Green Bond Program, which established a green bond market in Kenya and facilitated the first green bond in East and Central Africa.
She also developed the first digital accessibility for persons with disabilities framework for Kenya’s banking industry, democratizing access to banking services for people living with disabilities. The framework, the first of its kind in Africa, will see more than 2 million Kenyans living with disabilities gain better access to mobile banking products.
As a champion for enterprise development, She designed KBA’s Inuka SME capacity Building Program, which has supported 40 thousand entrepreneurs to run their businesses better.
Nuru Mugambi was the youngest woman to earn the title Fellow of the Kenya Institute of Bankers for industry excellence and leadership. In 2016, she was recognized by the Eisenhower Fellowship programs and former US President Barrack Obama as an emerging African leader.
