The National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) will register afresh all motor vehicle and motor cycle dealers operating in Kenya by April 1st 2022.
Dealers who qualify will be issued with digital licensing cards and all existing licenses will stand revoked at the expiry of the period.
All existing red Kenya Garage(KG) plates must be surrendered to NTSA and replaced with digital green plates by April 1st 2022. Existing plates will be rendered obsolete at the expiry of the period.
All container freigh stations dealing in motor vehicles and towing services providers must surrender the red KG plates and replace them with digital green plates and KT plates respectively by April 1st 2022.
All X-number plates stand nullified.

“The registration and management of motor vehicle records is critical in facilitating legal ownership and documentation of relevant transaction. It also impacts the economy and security of our nation,” said Dr Fred Matiangi, CS Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination.
The Government established an inter-Agency team drawn from the security and transport sectors to revalidate all motor vehicle and motor cycle dealers, manufacturers, repairers and tow truck owners.
The inter-Agency team has recommended a digital register of all motor vehicle dealerships in Kenya and replacement of the red KG plates with KC( Container Freight Stations) and KT( Kenya Towing) and green KG plates.
