The NTSA has issued a notice suspending the licenses of nine matatu saccos in the city. According to the notice, the nine saccos violated provisions of the Authority, operating below the minimum number of vehicles.
NTSA PSV regulations require every Sacco to operate at least 30 serviceable motor vehicles.
“NTSA notifies the Public that it has suspended Nine Saccos/Companies for failing to comply with the provisions of Section 5(1) of the National Transport and Safety Authority (Operation of PSV)Regulations, 2014, which require a PSV Sacco/Company to operate a minimum of Thirty (30) serviceable motor vehicles.”
The suspension of the matatus took place between 26th and 27th September. This will affect commuters traveling on Saccos such as City tram, Moonlight Coach, and Transafaria.
Yesterday, Little Shuttle temporarily halted their services following a directive by NTSA.
The authority advises members of the public to shun vehicles belonging to the suspended Saccos to avoid inconveniences. Moreover, the authority has ordered the Traffic Department to impound any vehicles belonging to the nine Saccos which will operate contrary to the suspension.
