The Nairobi Securities Exchange recorded a rise in weekly equity turnover to Kes.2.4Bn compared to Kes. 2.3Bn posted the previous week. This is as the banking sector dominated trading at the bourse.
The Derivative Market closed the week with a total of 74 contracts valued at Kes.2.5M.
NSE Weekly Activity
The Banking Sector dominated the week with shares worth Kes.736M transacted which accounted for 30.54% of the week’s traded value. KCB Group moved 5.9M shares valued at Kes.269M and closed the week at Kes.45.35. Equity Group Holdings remained steady at Kes.51.75 with shares worth Kes.254M transacted. Standard Chartered Bank down 0.19% to Kes.132.00 moved 1.26M shares valued at Kes.167M.
The leading gainer was Absa New Gold ETF which rose 10.37% to Kes. 2,075 at the NSE.
The Absa New Gold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) recorded an all-time high turnover of Shs 91.7 million on a volume of 44,000 units and closed at Kshs.2075 on Wednesday March 2nd 2021
According to Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) market report, the overall turnover in the market activities as of March 2 was Shs 792 million from the previous sessions Shs 202 million and the Absa New Gold Exchange Traded Fund contributed to that by 11.57percent. The security rose by 10.37 percent to Kshs.2075 from Ksh.1880 registered in the previous sessions.
New Gold Issuer Limited, a subsidiary of South Africa’s Absa Bank was the first ETF listing in the region and received approval in 2017 to issue and list on the NSE.
New Gold was followed by Sameer Plc which was up 9.76% to ksh 2.70, Eaagads Plc which gained 9.31% to ksh 13.50 followed by Transcentury Plc which was up 6.90% to ksh 1.24 and Unga Plc which gained 6.23% to ksh 29.
NSE INDICES
The NSE 20 Share index gained 14.57 points to 1897.90 while the benchmark All Share Index edged up 4.61 points to 164.64 The NSE 25 Share gained 67.70 points to 3703.58
The volume of shares traded during the week stood at ksh 66.9 Million compared to 71.9 Million transacted the previous week.
Safaricom rose by 5.19% to Kes.37.50, up from Kes.35.65 registered the previous week, with shares worth Kes.1.3Bn transacted; this represented 55.80% of the weeks traded value.
The Bond Market registered reduced activity with bonds worth Kes.15.6Bn transacted compared to 22.5Bn registered the previous week.
