The Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) saw the Banking Sector emerge top in turnover with Shares worth KSh 1.1 billion transacted, which accounted for 49.71% of the week’s traded value.
Investors have been active on the KCB Group and Standard Chartered Bank of Kenya(SCBK) which are due to close their share registers this week, ahead of dividend payments to shareholders
Equity Group moved 13 million shares valued at KSh 517 Million and closed the week at KSh 39.10 per share. The lender’s net earnings for the year ended December 2020 dropped 12 per cent to KSh20.1 billion compared to KSh22.6 billion the previous year.
KCB Group was down 0.95% to KSh 41.60 and moved 8.5 million shares valued at KSh360 Million. NCBA Group Plc closed the week 7.28% lower to KSh24.85 per share on a volume of 4 Million shares valued at KSh110 Million.
The telecommunications sector accounted for 35.21% of the week’s traded value, with Safaricom share price rising by 1.04% to close the week at KSh 38.80 per share, up from KSh38.40 registered the previous week. The firm recorded a turnover of KSh 849 Million.
NSE Weekly top losers and gainers
TPS Eastern Africa (Serena) Plc was the week’s top loser on the NSE, shedding 9.41% in share price activity to close the week at KSh 15.40 per share from the KSh 17.00 per share posted the previous week.
Uchumi Supermarkets Plc gained 14.29% in share price appreciation to close the week at KSh0.24 per share.
The Derivatives Market segment at the bourse closed the week with 210 contracts valued at KSh 8.2 Million transacted. This is compared to 116 contracts valued at KSh 1.2 million posted the prior week.
The Secondary Bond Market recorded a 34.66% decline in activity with KSh17.85 Billion worth of bonds traded against KSh 27.32 Billion worth of bonds transacted the previous week.
The benchmark NSE All Share Index (NASI) closed Friday at 165.61, representing a week on week (W/W) gain of 0.32%, a 4-week month to month (M/M) loss of 1.98% and an overall year-to-date (YTD) gain of 8.88%.
The NSE20 share index shed 5.29 points or 0.28%, while the NSE25 share index was up by 0.13 points or 0.07% to close the week at 1,888.25 and 3,635.87 points, respectively.
