    NSE Turnover Rises 4% to KSh 608.68 Million

    NSE Turnover Rises 4% to KSh 608.68 Million

    Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) edged up to KSh 608.68 Million on a volume of 23.98 Million shares that exchanged hands in 709 deals.

    This performance at the bourse is compared to a turnover of KSh 587.9 Million and a volume of 16 Million shares that exchanged hands when the bourse closed on Wednesday 11th, 2020.

    Safaricom was the prime mover, transacting a volume of 10.73 Million shares that resulted in a turnover of KSh 340.12 Million. Its share price, however, fell 0.31% to close at KSh 31.70

    Bank of Kigali moved 4.99 Million shares, followed by Equity Group (2.99 Million), Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (2.23 Million), and KCB (1.05 Million). Equity’s Share price was up 0.14% to close at KSh 36 from the previous KSh 35.95. 

    Investors reacted to KCB Q3 results, which showed a decline, with its share price falling 1.32% to close at KSh 37.40 from the previous price of KSh 37.90.

    Flame Tree Group was the day’s top price gainer, its share price rising 8.27% to KSh 1.44. It was followed by Uchumi, which was up 7.14% to KSh 0.30, Nation Media Group, which edged up 3.62% to KSh 15.75, Sameer Africa, which was up 2.94% to close at KSh 3.52 and Bamburi Cement, which appreciated 2.70% to KSh 24.70.

    The worst performing counters were led by Carbacid Investments, which lost 9.71% to trade at KSh 8.00. It was followed by East African Portland Cement, which was down 9.43% to trade at KSh 14.40, Sanlam Kenya, which was down 8.75% to KSh 12.00, Kenya Reinsurance, which lost 8.22% to KSh 2.01 and Standard Chartered Bank, which was down 6.03% to close at KSh 148.00.

    The NSE All-Share Index fell slightly by 0.80 points to 143.30 while the NSE 20 Share Index lost 10.78 points to settle at 1780.60. The NSE 25 Share Index lost 13.52 points to end the session at 3268.60.

    At the close of business, contracts worth KSh 94,800 were concluded at the NSE derivatives market compared to KSh 375,720 at the previous session.

    Bonds worth KSh 1.39 Billion were transacted in 44 deals at the NSE’s fixed income segment compared to KSh 1.47 Billion worth of bonds traded during the previous session.
