Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) edged up to KSh 1.1 Billion this Thursday, on a volume of 35.59 Million shares that exchanged hands in 726 deals.

This is compared to KSh 598 Million’s turnover this Wednesday and KSh 632.7 Million posted on Tuesday.
The top gainer was the NSE, whose share price was up 8.11% to trade at KSh 8.00 from the previous KSh 7.40. This counter’s activities were dominated by foreign investors, at 99.7%, resulting in 13 deals and a turnover of KSh 26.98 Million.
The other price gainers in the top 5 positions included Trans Century, which was up 6.67% to KSh 1.60, Carbacid Investments, which edged 6.10% to KSh 8.70, Equity Group, whose share price was up 5.64% to KSh 34.65, and Liberty Kenya Holdings which appreciated 4.27% to close at KSh 7.82 on Thursday.
The worst performers were led by East African Cables, whose share price plunged by 9.74% from KSh 1.54 previously to KSh 1.39 this Thursday. This counter had three deals that resulted in a volume of 66,100 shares, resulting in a turnover of KSh 91,893.00.
Other losers were Crown Paints Kenya Limited, which lost 8.43% to KSh 38.00, Express Kenya, which was down 7.93% to KSh 3.60, Stanbic Holdings, which declined 6.79% to KSh 75.50 and Eveready, which shed 5.71% of its share price to trade at KSh 0.00 this Thursday.
KCB Group Plc was the day’s prime mover on a volume of 18.15 Million. With a market capitalization of KSh 113.75 Billion, this counter recorded a turnover of KSh 641.93 Million in 124 deals at a stable price of KSh 35.40 per share.
Other big movers were Safaricom transacting 5.52 Million shares, followed by NSE (3.37 Million), KPLC (2 Million), and Equity Group (1.18 Million).
The benchmark NSE All-Share Index increased by 0.71 points to 140.90 while the NSE 25 Share Index was up 21.18 points to 3184.94. The NSE 20 Share Index was up 13.31 points to 1770.21 from the 1756.90 points Wednesday.
The derivatives market had five contracts valued at KSh 154,300 concluded during today’s trading session. This was a rise compared to 7 contracts worth KSh 219,500 transacted previously.
Bonds worth KSh 1.26 billion were transacted in 41 deals compared to KSh 1.19 billion worth of bonds transacted this Wednesday.
