    NSE turnover rises 55% to KSh 596.79 Million

    NSE turnover rises 55% to KSh 596.79 Million

    Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) recorded a turnover of KSh 596.79 Million when trading ended this Wednesday, an increase of 55% from Tuesday’s numbers. This was on a volume of 21.08 Million shares that changed hands in 997 deals.

    Key movers at the NSE

    Safaricom was the biggest mover with a volume of 7.92 Million shares, whose prices rose 1.74% to close at KSh 35.00 from the previous KSh 34.40. The counter recorded a turnover of KSh 277.24 Million in 142 deals that had 94.0% foreign investors participation. During the day’s trading session, Safaricom’s share price touched a new all-time of 35.05.

    Other top movers were Equity (4.35 Million), Britam (3.91 Million), KCB (2.29 Million) and KPLC (670,400).

    Price gainers

    The leading price gainer was ILAM Fahari Income REIT [FAHR], whose price was up 9.51% to KSh 6.22 from the previous KSh 5.68. The counter had a volume of 21,900 in 13 deals that resulted in a turnover of KSh 136,016.00.

    Other gainers were Uchumi which rose 7.14% to KSh 0.30, Car& General which was up 6.67% to KSh 24.00, Flame Tree Group which was up 6.40% to KSh 1.33 and Sameer Africa which gained 5.85% to KSh 3.44.

    Worst performers

    The worst performing counters were led by Sanlam Kenya, which was down 7.69% to KSh 12.00. It was followed by Standard Group which shed 6.67% to KSh 21.00, Olympia Capital which lost 6.36% to KSh 2.06, Stanbic Holdings which declined 5.59% to KSh 80.25 and KenGen which fell 4.41% to KSh 4.55.

    NSE Indices

    The benchmark NSE All-Share Index gained 1.33 points to close at 153.82. The NSE 20 Share Index declined 8.63 points to close at 1869.26. The NSE 25 Share Index gained 16.70 points to close at 3428.83.

    The derivatives market had five single stock futures contracts valued at KSh 75,920 transacted. This is KSh 77,980 concluded in the previous trading session.

    Bonds Market

    The secondary bond market had bonds worth KSh1.53 billion traded in 26 deals during Wednesday’s trading session. This is compared to KSh 811.20 million achieved in 13 deals during the previous trading session.
