    NSE turnover drops 52% to KSh 228.6 Million

    NSE turnover drops 52% to KSh 228.6 Million

    Turnover at the erratic Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) plunged 52% to KSh 228.6 Million when trading ended this Wednesday, 23rd December 2020.

    This was on a volume of 9.1 Million shares that exchanged hands in 595 deals.

    The top price gainer was cross-listed Bank of Kigali Group, which edged up 9.47% to close at KSh 20.80.

    Safaricom Plc was the biggest mover with 3.05 Million shares traded, its share price moving up 0.44% to KSh 34.00 from the previous 33.85. The counter recorded a turnover of KSh 103.63 Million from 125 deals with 74.4% participation from foreign investors.

    Other big movers were Centum with 2.74 Million shares, Equity Group(1.07 Million), Absa Bank(606, 500), and Bamburi Cement, which had 483 500 shares changing hands.

    The NSE All-Share Index was up 0.76 points to 149.82, while the NSE 20 increased by 11.07 points to 1823.07. The NSE 25 was up 16.07 points to 3331.96.

    The list of top price gainers includes Sameer Africa, whose share rose 7.32% to trade at KSh 3.08 from the previous KSh 2.87. Diamond Trust Bank gained 5.58% to KSh 71.00; Liberty Holdings rose 4.27% to KSh 7.82, while Uchumi shares rose 3.45% to close at KSh 0.30.

    The worst performers were led by Olympia Capital, which was down 9.09% to KSh 2.00. Absa Gold ETF was down 6.90% to KSh 1,955, I&M Holdings slid 3.37% to KSh 43.00, Home Afrika lost 2.38% to settle at KSh 0.42, while Car&General was down 2.22% to KSh 22.00.

    The derivatives market had 15 single stock futures contracts valued at KSh 168,875 concluded. This was a rise in turnover from the 5 deals valued at KSh 185,000 transacted previously.

    Bonds worth KSh3.04 billion were traded in 106 deals during the Wednesday session compared to the KSh 6.94 Billion made in 112 deals this Tuesday.
