    NSE lists Liberty Kenya as Day's Top Price Gainer

    The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) has recorded Liberty Kenya as the day’s top price gainer with 9.81% share price appreciation closing at KSh 9.40 per share.

    With a market capitalization of KSh 5.04 Billion, Liberty Kenya Holdings Ltd, formerly CFC Insurance Holdings Ltd, is a Kenya-based holding company offering life and property/casualty insurance coverage.

    On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, Liberty closed at KSh9.40 per share, a 9.8% gain over its previous closing price of KSh 8.56. This was on a volume of 20,900 in 10 deals that resulted in a turnover of KSh 196,460.00

    This counter began the year with a share price of KSh 7.70 and has since gained 22% on that price valuation, ranking it ninth on the bourse in terms of year-to-date performance.

    The stock has accrued 19% over the past four-week period alone—fourth-best on NSE.

    This Wednesday, other price gainers were Trans Century, whose share prices were up 8.7%, Umeme 7.56% and East African Cables 5.26%.

    NSE GAINERS AND LOSERS

    A total of 14,724,700 shares in 1,141 deals, corresponding to a market value of KSh 612,517,663.00, were traded this Wednesday, a 14% decline in volume while deals were up 5%.

    With a market capitalization of KSh 2.72 Trillion, the Nairobi bourse ended with 22 gainers and 19 losers.

    On the losing side were Nairobi Business Ventures, whose share price depreciation by 8.14% at KSh 10.15 per share, followed by Kapchorua Tea, which was down 6.12%, TPS Eastern Africa Serena, which fell 6% and Eveready East Africa, whose share price declined 5.77%.

    Safaricom recorded the highest volume of 8.16 million traded shares, followed by Equity Group (2.48Million), KCB Group (1.88Million) and Diamond Trust Bank Kenya (424,800).

    The benchmark NSE All Share Index (NASI) inched up 0.28 (0.16%) points to close at 178.89, representing a 1-week gain of 2.32%, a 4-week gain of 3.44%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 17.61%.

    The NSE 20 Share Index was up 0.02%; 1.64% gain over the past week and 6.26% year to date. The NSE 25 Share Index declined 0.12%; it has gained 1.25% in the past week and 13.98% gain year-to-date.
