    NSE Weekly Equity Turnover Rises 23.8% to KSh 2.6Billion

    NSE Weekly Equity Turnover Rises 23.8% to KSh 2.6Billion

    The NSE(Nairobi Securities Exchange) recorded an increase in weekly equity turnover to KSh 2.6 billion on 108m shares compared to KSh 2.1 billion on 87.5m shares posted the previous week, an increase in activity of 23.8%.

    Activity at the NSE Derivatives segment closed the week with 63 contracts valued at KSh1.67m.

    At the end of trading yesterday, the NSE recorded an increase in equity turnover to KSh 1.2 billion from KSh 121m while shares traded declined to 5m from 32.8m posted at the previous session.

    NSE INDICES WEEK-ON-WEEK PERFORMANCE

    The NSE 20 share index was down 53.49 points to close the week at 1573.32, while the All Share Index (NASI) shed 4.60 points to settle at 117.21. The NSE 25 Share lost 108.89 points to close the week at 2767.45.

    The week’s top gainer was Sameer, whose share price was up 21.65% from KSh 3.28 to KSh 3.99, while the worst performing counter was Nation Media which declined 16.25% during the week from KSh 20.00 to KSh 16.75.

    The Banking Sector had shares worth KSh.495m transacted, which accounted for 18.69% of the week’s traded value.

    Equity Group Holdings declined by 2.13% to KSh.39.00, down from KSh39.85 registered the previous week, with shares worth KSh 342m transacted.

    KCB Group was down 3.17% to KSh 36.70 and moved 3.2m shares valued at KSh118m. Standard Chartered Bank Kenya was up 1.01% to KSh125.00 and moved 66,000 shares valued at KSh 8m.

    Safaricom declined by 4.94% to KSh 23.10, down from KSh24.30 registered the previous week, with shares worth KSh1.96 billion transacted; this represented 74.05% of the week’s traded value.

    The Energy & Petroleum Sector had shares worth KSh 24m transacted, representing 0.94% of the week’s traded value. Umeme Limited moved 1.7m shares valued at KSh 13.96m and closed the week at KSh 8.00.

    Kenya Power & Lighting was down 2.74% to KSh1.42 and moved 4m shares value at KSh6m.

    The Manufacturing & Allied Sector had shares worth KSh156m transacted, representing 5.88% of the week’s traded value. E.A Breweries was down 7.43% to KSh 115.25 and moved 1.2m shares valued at KSh.144m. B.A.T edged down 1.81% to KSh 421.00 with shares worth KSh 11m transacted.

    The Secondary Bond Market registered reduced activity with bonds worth KSh12.97billion transacted compared to 17.8billion reported the previous week.
