    NSE Equity Turnover Up 32% to KSh 396.6 Million

    NSE Equity Turnover Up 32% to KSh 396.6 Million

    The Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) recorded improved activity with a volume of 11.1 Million shares, changing hands in 1,237 deals that resulted in a turnover of KSh 396.6 Million, an increase of 32%.


    Sameer Africa was the day’s top price gainer, with an 8.57% appreciation closing at KSh 3.80 per share.

    Sameer Africa began 2021 with a share price of KSh3.25 and has since gained 16.9% on that price valuation, ranking it 12th on the NSE in terms of year-to-date performance.

    The listed tyre dealer was followed by Home Afrika, whose share price was up 5.26% to KSh 0.40, Liberty Kenya, which gained 4.88% to KSh 8.60, Centum, which rose by 4.33% to KSh 16.85 and Trans-Century, which was up 4.03% to KSh 1.29.

    BOC Kenya was the day’s worst performer, its share price depreciating by 6.06% to KSh 62.00 per share.

    It was followed by East African Portland Cement Co, which was down 4.39% to KSh 8.28, Eveready East Africa which declined 4.04% to end the day at KSh 0.95, TPS Eastern Africa Serena, which fell by 3.33% to KSh 14.50 and Nairobi Business Ventures, which lost 3.03% to KSh 5.12.

    Safaricom recorded the highest volume of 6.12 Million traded shares, followed by ScanGroup (1.05Million), Equity Group Holdings (778,500), KenGen (658,100)and ABSA(613,400)

    NSE INDICES

    The benchmark NSE All Share Index (NASI) dropped 0.98 (0.52%) points to close at 187.22, representing a one week gain of 0.69%, a 4-week gain of 5.82%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 23.08%.

    The NSE 20 Share Index gained 0.06%, representing a 1.57% one week gain and 8.76% overall year to date gain; the NSE 25 Share Index lost 0.42%, representing a 0.08% one week gain and 19.22% year-to-date gain.

    Activity in the secondary bonds Market was subdued, with turnover declining to KSh 2.1 Billion from 79 deals compared to a turnover of KSh 5.4 Billion from 112 deals previously.

    The Derivatives Market had 20 contracts worth KSh 735,850 concluded compared to 27 contracts worth KSh 827,950 at the previous session.
