    NSE Daily Equity Turnover Rises to Kes 979 Million Driven by the Manufacturing Industry

    The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) recorded quite a rise in Tuesday’s trading session with Equity turnover rising to Kes 979 million against the kes 134 million posted during yesterday’s trading session.

    As a result, the number of shares traded stood at 16 million compared to the 6.8 million shares posted during Monday’s trading session

    The NSE All Share Index shed 1.93 points to close at 160.44. The NSE 25 Share Index lost 30.76 points ending the day at 3631.71. However the NSE 20 Share Index gained 1.13 points to settle at 1890.59

    The Manufacturing & Allied sector had shares worth Kes.443M transacted & accounted for 45.32% of the day’s traded value. B.A.T was the day’s main feature with 895,000 shares valued at Kes.443M changing hands at between Kes.491.00 and Kes.498.00.

    NSE Top Gainers and Losers

    Sanlam led the gainers during today’s trading session gaining 8.30% to kes 13.05 per share, followed by Uchumi supermarkets which was up 5.26% to kes 0.20 per share, Nation Media was up 4.69% to kes 21.20 which was followed by Absa Bank Kenya which gained 2.95% to close at 12.20 per share.

    Unga Plc came out last shedding 6.90% to kes 27 per share, followed by Nairobi business venture which lost 5.25% to kes 4.69 per share, Transcentury plc which was down 4.96% to kes 1.15, followed by williamsons Tea which was down 3.53% closing at kes 130 per share.

    Safaricom represented 38.44% of today’s traded value after actively moving 10M shares valued at Kes.376M at between Kes.35.00 and Kes.37.00.

    The Secondary Bond markets had bonds worth Kes.2.55Bn transacted.
