Airtel Kenya has picked Nokia to modernize Nairobi with high speed 4G and 5G-ready hardware from its comprehensive AirScale portfolio. The agreement, which runs for 3 years, will also future-proof Airtel Kenya’s 4G network, thus giving Airtel an easier transition to 5G.
The deployment will consist of upgrading existing 2G, 3G and 4G radio access network (RAN) coverage in urban, semi-urban, highways, tourist spots CBDs throughout the country.
Nokia is supplying Airtel with its AirScale Single RAN (S-RAN) portfolio for both indoor and outdoor coverage. It includes base stations and radio access products. This move seeks to improve connectivity and capacity benefits, including enhanced voice and data services to subscribers while reducing complexity and driving cost efficiencies.
In addition to deploying its cloud-agnostic NetAct software solution to manage the telco’s networks, Nokia will also provide network planning, technical support services, and digital deployment, to help Airtel to launch its services faster to the market, and also ensure customer requirements for quality are met.
