Nation Media Group (NMG), has launched its latest Annual Report in a creative way, enclosed with interactive Augmented Reality (AR) technology, the first of its kind in the region.
The media house teamed up with Layer to launch augmented reality to bring more live experience to the readers/shareholders while reading the 2016 annual report. The report describes, NMG’s business & corporate values, financial performance among other things.
NMG’s Head of Corporate Affairs Mr Clifford Machoka noted, “It’s a first in the region as far as using it for Investor communications. It bridges the gap between print media and digital. It adds interactivity to print by embedding videos, audio, GIFs and you can use it on product labels, magazines, newspapers.”
Augmented reality is a modern technology which integrates the digital information with live video or user’s environment in real time.
Readers simply download an app to their mobile phone, in this case an app called Layar and view digital information by simply holding the phone on to the “scan” icon in the report. This will bring in more liveliness to the readers of the annual report compared to previous annual reports.
Augmented reality also received plenty of buzz this year with the advent of Pokemon Go. AR is derived from location based services and works on mobile phones that include a camera, GPS and a compass.
