Nigerian Mobility Startup, Treepz, Expands its Services to Kenya

Treepz, a Nigeria mobility startup, has extended its operations to Kenya. Kenya is the fourth nation where the mobility startup will function, having already introduced its services in Uganda and Ghana.

Following this launch in Kenya, the operational services will be initially accessible in Nairobi and extended to Mombasa. The team will be led by Mr Samar Patel, the newly appointed Country Manager for Kenya, with 18 years of experience in sales, transportation, and technology. Mr Patel has previously held a similar position with SWVL Kenya.

We are thrilled by the addition of Samar to our team and the launch of Treepz Kenya in Nairobi today. This was made possible with the support we received from our current investors amid a turbulent 2022. Also, after winning the GSA African Award in Cape Town last year, we received funding from its funding arm – GIIG Africa Fund and that was also very timely for us.

This significant achievement for Treepz comes just a few months after it marked its 3rd anniversary. In recent months, it has also secured numerous investments from notable funds such as GIIG Africa Fund and MoAngels, as well as from its current investors, including ShockVentures, Winston Limited, Aston Investments, and Novum Actus, among others.

It is worth noting that last year, the mobility startup raised $1.2m just two months after completing the Techstars Toronto Accelerator Program. It later secured an additional $1.6m in seed funding, bringing the total to $2.8m with the inclusion of new investors.

The company launched its e-hailing app in Lagos, Nigeria, in September 2019, under PlentyWaka. However, it changed its name to Treepz shortly after securing $1.2m in seed funding. In September 2021, it acquired Ghanaian Stabus as part of its expansion plans.

A month later, Treepz raised $2.8m in a pre-seed investment round and acquired Ugabus, a Ugandan mobility startup that later became Treepz Uganda.

Subsequently, Treepz entered into a partnership agreement with CMS Taxi and Motor Nigeria Limited (CMS T&M), a Lagos-based traditional bus company. This partnership provides better payment options and travel time management using Treepz’s technology. Additionally, the company introduced the Transportation Operator System, which enables Bus Parks and Bus Operators to digitize their services, increase their customer base, and manage revenue.
