The much-awaited assumption into office of Peter Ndegwa at the helm of Safaricom commences today; 1st April 2020. Ndegwa joins Safaricom from Diageo PLC where he was the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe.

Ndegwa’s appointment came in October 2019 following the demise of Bob Collymore. He will take over from Micheal Joseph who has been acting on an interim capacity. In an interview with The Kenyan Wallstreet, Mr Joseph noted he intends to support the new CEO through transition and possibly for longer.

During his stint as the CFO of East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL), he saw the implementation of an affordable-beer strategy culminating in the introduction of low-cost Senator Keg beer that has revolutionised the local beer industry. Furthermore, his stint at Diageo’s Nigeria and Ghana units saw double digits growth.

Ndegwa is a certified public accountant, holds an MBA from London School of Business and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.
