The new KSh1 billion cruise ship terminal in Mombasa county has been completed, shining prospects on the tourism sector having a major boost.
According to Vincent Sidai, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) General Manager in charge of Infrastructure Development, the contractor is now carrying out final touches, including equipping the facility ahead of the official commissioning.
The new cruise terminal includes a passenger lobby, duty-free shops, restaurants, conference facilities and office spaces for key tourism stakeholders. The terminal will have similar facilities just like airports and will go a long way to attract more cruise ships and promote tourism in the country at large.
Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mombasa had witnessed a spike in cruise ships, bringing in large numbers of high spending tourists from different parts of the world.
