Nestlé has announced the appointment of Kenyan, Ciru Miring’u as head of the company’s operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan. Ciru becomes the first local manager to head the East African cluster of the Swiss based world’s leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company.
According to Cornel Krummenacher, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Equatorial African Region, Nestlé’s appointment of a Kenyan to head the East African cluster, is part of its investment in local talent. “This is also in line with our gender agenda to have more women in leadership,” he said.
Ciru joins Nestlé with over 15 years’ experience in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) within sales, marketing and general management, most recently with Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), Consumer Healthcare division.
“Having served in almost a similar capacity in the East African region at GSK, Ciru has deep experience managing in a versatile and complex international context, and is well-positioned to lead the Nestlé East African Cluster,” added Krummenacher.
Ciru takes the mantle from her predecessor Svetlana Obruchkova and said that she looks forward to working with the East African team to build a sustainable and profitable business.
“I am very proud and honoured to take on such a great role. I look forward to working with the Nestlé team and partners to further our footprint and customer satisfaction in the region,” said Ciru Miring’u.
Svetlana has been the Managing Director of Nestlé Kenya for the last two years. She is credited for opening up the business in the Horn of Africa and enhancing brand visibility and activities such as the Kenya Primary School MILO ball games – whose partnership was extended for the next ten years. Svetlana has played a key role in strong stakeholder engagements that have contributed positively to the FMCG industry as a whole.
Ciru holds a BSc in Biochemistry and Zoology from University of Nairobi and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Marketing from the United States International University.
She will be based at the Nestlé Kenya offices along Pate road, in Industrial Area Nairobi.
