The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) is set to merge with the Strategic Food Reserve, after the government announced a restructuring program of the sector, a move that seeks to enhance efficiency.
Agriculture CS, Peter Munya, says that in the restructured program, private millers will also be allowed to store their cereals at the NCPB, at a cost.
Furthermore, as KBC reports, NCPB facilities will undergo a revamp to increase capacity that will allow farmers and private millers to store their cereals at a fee. In the long run, this will ensure food security, in line with the government’s Big Four Agenda.
