The National Assembly Finance and Planning Committee has endorsed Nancy Gathungu for the Auditor General position. Nancy Gathungu will now wait to take over the AG position that has been vacant since Edward Ouko’s retirement in August 2019.
President Uhuru earlier nominated Nancy Gathungu after she emerged first among top three candidates. If she receives the final nod from parliament, Gathungu will serve for a non-renewable 8-year term.

If successful, Gathungu will help streamline the process of reporting results among parastatals. State corporations like Kenya Power, KenGen and East Africa Portland Cement previously delayed their results since they were not signed off by the auditor general in line with the Public Audit Act. The Capital Markets Authority, however, approved the release of result for state-owned enterprises in March, despite the absence of an Auditor General.
