Naivas Supermarket Set To Open At Capital Centre After Uchumi's Pull-Out

Uchumi Supermarkets Limited exited Capital Centre last month as part of its restructuring strategy. To fill the vacancy, Naivas Supermarket will now be opening a branch at this same mall before Easter.

Naivas Supermarket, a privately-owned Kenyan supermarket chain has established branches in 43 locations in Kenya as of December 2017. The retailer opened a new branch along Moi Avenue, Nairobi in December 2017 after Nakumatt Supermarket closed its branch at this space.

Capital Centre Mall is strategically located along Mombasa road, serving customers from South B, South C, Syokimau, Mugoya, Mlolongo, Nairobi West, and the greater industrial area.

However, Uchumi exited Capital Centre because it is adopting “a store strategy that will yield more profitable operations.” Of late, Uchumi & Nakumatt have been closing their operations in a number of prime spaces across the country and some retailers including Carrefour, Naivas & Tuskys have moved in to occupy these spaces.

Therefore, whether Naivas Supermarket will capitalise on this mall’s strategic location more than Uchumi did is something that Kenyans will have to wait and see.
