    Nairobi Securities Exchange Key index sinks to 7 Year Low

    NSE 20 Share, the Kenyan bourse benchmark Index on Monday lost early gains to hit a seven-year low in intraday trading.

    The Index sank to 3084.48 points last spotted in September 2009. The drop was mainly caused by Sasini which plunged 4.46% as investors reacted negatively due to the Profit warning issued by the company.

    Ten of the Index’s constituents were in the red zone with only five counters posting gains. Since the beginning of 2016, the index is down by approximately 23.%.

    Volumes dropped by 31% to 12.51 Million from 18 Million while turnover declined by 22%to Sh 313 Million from Sh398 Million.

    Centum was trading at Sh36.5, last seen in March 2014 as EABL traded at a 52 week low of Sh 235. The brewer’s market value has slipped by 13% over the last one year.

    Counters in the insurance sectors have all dipped for the last one year except Kenya Re which has gained by 3.5%.
