Nairobi Green Park Terminus Automation Set to Begin NMS

Automation is set to begin at the KSh250 million Nairobi Green Park Terminus, according to Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS). This is after the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) deployed four of its engineers to NMS to help in the automation exercise.

Automating the systems will ease access to details for both public service vehicle (PSV) operators and commuters online.

According to NMS, large screens will be made available at the Nairobi Green Park Terminus to display route information, vehicle loading/ dropping, and queue status as part of the automation process.

The electronic system will be integrated into the termini to keep matatu users notified of when the last-mile buses will be at the different pick-up stages.

Further, commuters will be using a digital platform to determine when to take trips to and from the terminal. It will also keep matatu operators updated.

The Nairobi Green Park terminus, located at the former Lunar Park, is a drop-off and pick-up point for matatus plying the Ngong Road and Lang’ata routes, all currently operating from the Nairobi Railways Central station.

The terminus can accommodate between 300 and 350 matatus at any one time as well as process about 1,000 PSVs per hour and up to 20,000 PSVs per day.
