Businesses operating at one spot consistently for a period of six months within Nairobi County will transition to a unified business permit (UBP) with immediate effect.
- The Unified Business Permit (UBP) is a streamlined permit that consolidates various licenses previously issued by Nairobi City County into a single permit.
- It replaces the need for multiple licenses and simplifies the process for businesses operating within Nairobi.
- The UBP consolidates several licenses, including business permit, fire license, food hygiene certificate, health certificate and the advertising license.
According to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, the directive targets businesses operating in markets and road side, the new permit will replace the daily cess that the businesses have been paying which mostly does not get to the county and leaves them open to daily harassment.
“The County’s Revenue outlook is looking good despite last year having been the best in the five years. The digitistion of our system and strict cashless policy will ensure our own source of revenue numbers soar. Technology plays a big part in sealing leakages, efficiency and revenue increment,” Governor Sakaja said.
