The Nairobi Commuter Rail-JKIA Express Service was today commissioned by Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia.
This service combines Rail and Road for users going to and from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The train ride to JKIA journey entails a ride on the DMU train up to Embakasi Village station. Customers will then board the BRT bus to JKIA.
The Nairobi commuter rail service (NCRS) is a diesel train network serving Nairobi and its suburbs.
After being modernized, the NCRS was inaugurated by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 10th November 2020. The service links up 26 stations, plus four routes with a daily ridership of 13,000 people.
The Nairobi Commuter Rail Service (NCRS) development is part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport Master Plan. This rail project is designed to attract passenger traffic from the roads, thus reduce congestion.
It will integrate rail transport with other modes of transportation, including road and air.
Kenya Railways has meanwhile adjusted the Athi River commuter train that will now depart from Nairobi at 5.50 pm to Makadara, through to Imara Daima, Embakasi, Mlolongo to arrive at the Athi River station at 7.13 pm.
The morning train leaves Athi River at 6.20 am through the same route to arrive in Nairobi at 7.40 am.
