The Nairobi City County is planning to build four new state-of-the-art stadia with the aim of increasing recreational facilities for the youth and promoting sports in the county.
According to the Nairobi County Executive for Education and Sports Janet Ouko, the four stadia will be constructed in line with FIFA standards in these locations: Jacaranda Grounds, Kihumbini, Kariokor, and Dandora.
Ms Ouko also said the contractors are already on site for the construction of the first stadium in Dandora.
The county will fund the entire projects.
The Features of the Stadiums
The four stadiums will be 120m by 50m with plenty of seats that can be occupied by thousands of people. The stadia will also include facilities such as modern changing rooms, restaurants, and restaurants.
The contractors who are awarded the tenders to construct these stadia are expected to provide a chain-link fence with the gates painted in the county’s logo colours. Moreover, the contractors are expected to provide plastic stadium seats with a full back-rest and water drainage holes.
The contractors will also have to install astroturf with an anti-shock underlay, build substitutes’ benches with a sunshade, and install CCTV cameras to offer 24-hour security surveillance.
The county also plans to build a football, cricket, and basketball stadium as well as public swimming pools in at least the 17 constituencies in Nairobi.
