Mama Rocks – Burger Kitchen Limited, a Nairobi-based gourmet burger chain, is facing possible liquidation following a petition filed by one of its co-founders, Samantha Amimo Mwedekeli.
- •Court filings reveal that Mwedekeli submitted a petition for the company’s winding up on October 16, 2024 with the hearing now scheduled for 12th June.
- •On the same day the petition was filed, the founders announced that they would temporarily close down to “work on some important changes for the future of Mama Rocks.”
- •The notice now invites creditors and shareholders of the chain to appear in court to support or oppose the petition.
“Notice is given that a Petition for the liquidation of the above – mentioned Company, MAMA ROCKS–BURGER KITCHEN. The said Petition is directed to be heard before the High Court, Commercial and Tax Division sitting at Nairobi, Milimani Law Courts on the 12th June, 2025 at 9 O’ clock,” the court document stated.
Launched in 2016 by sisters Samantha and Natalie Mwedekeli, Mama Rocks quickly became a fixture of Nairobi’s urban dining culture, blending African flavors with international fast-casual aesthetics. From its early days as a food truck to multiple brick-and-mortar outlets, the brand had been lauded for its innovation and local flair.
If the court grants the petition, Mama Rocks’ assets could be sold to satisfy debts, and the company would be struck from the register of companies.
