On the innovation front, MultiChoice has launched a DStv Explora, which has features such as the PVR functions, Video on Demand services Catch Up and Catch Up Plus, video rental capabilities via BoxOffice and xtra view, which allows you to use two decoders with one subscription.
The DStv Explora offers more viewing control and a customized viewing experience with a pause, play, and rewind feature available for live TV. The PVR functionality of the decoder allows viewers to record shows from the existing program line up and later access them via a playlist stored on a 1TB hard drive within the decoder, allowing viewers up to 110 hours of personal recorded content. The PVR function also allows one to view a program while recording another.
The company has launched the MyDStv and MyGOtv mobile self-service apps. Henceforth, customers can access these apps from the Apple or Google Play store at no extra cost and manage their accounts from their devices. The apps allow customers to make payments, change packages, reset their decoders, clear error codes and check their balances without having to contact the call centre.
Furthemore, there is now provision for the USSD self-service code *423#, from where customers can buy, pay, reconnect or clear error codes from their mobile phones.
Recently, the firm also launched a new auto-renewal payment platform called Kadipay, which allows customers the convenience of easily and securely automating their monthly subscription payments by registering their cards on the Kadipay platform. KadiPay allows DStv and GOtv customers to enlist a range of Debit and Credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, American Express, UnionPay and Discover cards, giving customers utmost freedom in never having to remember their due date, smartcard number or needing to contact the MultiChoice service centres for reconnection. Once a customer successfully enlists their card details via the KadiPay microsite, the monthly subscription payment will be automated.
To further ease the process of staying connected, there is also provision of the Enhanced Decoder Notification (ED) functionality, which provides viewers with streamlined access to important subscription information, including rewards notifications, payable subscription amounts, methods to avoid late payment and disconnection. The Enhanced Decoder Notification service uses icons that represent the different types of notifications on top of Live TV and will be available on both DStv and GOtv decoders. The message will also be added to the Mail Messages screen.
In June this year, Multichoice signed a deal with Netflix and Amazon to allow its users to access their services through DSTV decoders. The deal will not only help Multichoice retain its subscriptions but also earn commissions. The agreement follows Multichoice’s strategic objective to grow streaming services in sub-Saharan Africa, currently at only 4%.
