MTN Rwandacell Plc has appointed Chantal Kagame as the first CEO of its freshly minted FinTech Subsidiary Mobile Money Rwanda Limited.
This follows approvals from the National Bank of Rwanda.
Ms Kagame, whose appointment has taken effect, is expected to provide and manage mobile money services in Rwanda, drive the firm’s strategy, innovation and daily operations.
The setting up of Money Money Rwanda Limited is part of the telco’s Rwanda’s strategy to provide digital solutions and enhancing cashless transactions to all Rwandese.
MTN strategy for Rwanda
According to MTN Rwanda CEO Mitwa Ng’ambi, one of the firm’s strategies is to establish platforms that enable customers to find value.
Mobile money business has matured in Rwanda over the past decade as the economy moves to become cashless.
Ms Kagame expressed her excitement at being allowed to lead Mobile Money Rwanda Limited, adding that future growth and expansion prospects are immense.
Before this appointment, Ms. Kagame held the Chief Business and Corporate Affairs Officer role since joining the giant telco in 2018.
She is a senior telecom executive with 19 years of experience, a track record of leadership, sales and distribution, mobile financial services, strategy development and execution, corporate affairs, and credit management.
Before joining MTN Rwanda, Ms Kagame was the Deputy CEO/COO at Tigo Rwanda for three years and Head of Sales, Distribution and Corporate Affairs at the same firm between 2011 and 2015.
The giant telco has now listed at the Rwanda Stock Exchange(RSE) opening up immense opportunities for the brand and its shareholders.
