Motor Vehicle Sales Rise to 762 Units in June

New data from the KMIA (Kenya Motor Industry Association) shows that motor vehicle sales rose to 762 units in June, an improvement from 568 units in May, the lowest so far this year.

The sale is the highest since March when the first COVID-19 case was reported in Kenya. The sales in March hit 864 units, and 1,049 units in February.

The overall impact of the virus on motor vehicle sales was a 54% drop in sales across the whole industry as at the end of May, compared to a similar period last year.

In June, Isuzu managed to sell a total of 317 units, translating to 41.6% of the total market share, which was also 99 more units than those it sold in May.

Toyota sold 167 units, 113 of which were local fully built units, translating to 22% of the total market share. Mitsubishi managed only 95 units during the month.

Volkswagen and Mercedes remained the highest selling luxury motor vehicle brands, with 12 units and eight units sold in June, respectively.

The four-month period between March and June 2020, experienced a 39% decline in sales compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
