Morocco to Supply UK with Clean Energy

Morocco is building a 10.5 Gigawatt Solar and Wind farm to supply clean energy via Subsea Cables to the United Kingdom(UK).

This twin 1.8 GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cables will be the world’s longest and will be situated in Morocco’s Guelmin-Oued Noun Region.

Subsea cable manufacturer XLCC will supply 3,800 km of subsea cables to the project. The first phase will be constructed between 2025-and 2027, connecting wind and solar power generated in Morocco to Alverdiscott North Devon-UK.

XLCC will build a factory in Hunterston, Scotland, and its first output will be for the power Project.

This initiative will almost double the world’s HVDC cable manufacturing production.

These undersea cables will need 90,000 metric tons of steel, and XLCC has already signed a deal with UK Steel Charter at Parliament to use Steel from the UK exclusively.

Xlinks, a UK firm, has been picked as the project’s developer.les company Xlinks is the project’s developer.

This Power Project spans some 1,500 square kilometres in Morocco and will be connected exclusively to the UK via 3,800 km of HVDC subsea cables.

The cable links Morocco to the UK through Spain-Portugal- France route.

This project will cost close to $ 21.9 billion.
