Mondo Ride raises $2M for expansion into Kampala Dar

Mondo Ride, a ride-hailing business founded in UAE but headquartered in Nairobi, has secured a $2M funding from UAE and Egypt bringing its total investment capital to $5M. As a result, Mondo Ride plans to take its services to 6 cities including Dar es Salaam and Kampala in 2018.

Mondo Ride, which established more than 2 years ago plans to take on dominant players like Uber and Taxify. “We have been adamant about creating an Africa-centric business that looks at opportunities where nobody else is really pursuing,” Troels Andersen, Mondo Ride CEO said.

Mondo has been keen on customizing its services according to market needs. The business offers more than one service where customers can hail a taxi, boda-boda motorcycle, or a tuk-tuk. Additionally, Mondo provides transport services to corporates hence allowing employees to move around easily. On the other hand, the competition is also diversifying its services and reducing its prices per kilometre. For instance, Uber introduced uber CHAP CHAP in January which allows customers to make short trips at only Sh100.
