Microsoft, via its Microsoft for Start-ups initiative, has launched a Global Social Entrepreneurship program during the recently concluded Sankalp Africa Summit 2020.
The program seeks to build and scale underrepresented founders with diverse perspectives and backgrounds through their products, services, and operations.
According to the firm, the program is available in 140 countries, with the criteria for selection being:
- A commitment to the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- An established service or product which will benefit from access to enterprise customers
- A business metric which measures impact on an important social or environmental challenge
Successful applicants will thus receive free access to the firm’s cloud technologies, including up to $120,000 in Azure credits, in addition to technical support and guidance. Furthermore, they will also receive grants in the sustainability, accessibility, skills and employability sectors.
