The East African Breweries Limited has announced the appointment of Dr Martin Oduor-Otieno as the new Board Chairman, effective 1st January 2020.
He takes over from Mr Charles Muchene, who will be retiring from the firm’s board on 31st December 2019. Muchene was appointed as an independent non-executive director of EABL in February 2011 and subsequently appointed chairman the following year.
Muchene has thus served the maximum tenure of 9 years allowed for independent directors under the corporate governance code issued by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA).
Muchene’s scorecard at EABL includes able leadership skills in driving its growth agenda across the East African region.
“Charles has made a huge strategic contribution to the business and is leaving it on a sound footing. His great insights and sound judgement of recent years will leave a lasting impact on EABL as we pursue our performance ambitions to be most trusted consumer company in Africa,” said Andrew Cowan, CEO of EABL.
Dr Odour was appointed to EABL on May 24th, 2016 as a non-executive director and currently chairman of Kenya Breweries Limited and UDV (Kenya) Limited, both subsidiaries of EABL. He also heads the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee.
Dr Oduor is an accomplished captain of industry, having also worked in the public sector as PS at the National Treasury during the former President Daniel Moi administration and was the CEO of KCB Group at the height of the lender’s regional expansion drive.
