Marriott International is set to open two luxury safari camps in Kenya in 2025 and early 2026, including a debut The Ritz-Carlton safari property.
- •The company has signed The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Camp and the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp with the Lazizi Group of Companies.
- •It opened the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in 2023, and is expanding its investments in luxury tented camps.
- •In total, Mariott International has seven properties in Kenya offering more than 1, 100 rooms.
“The growth of our luxury safari portfolio and The Ritz-Carlton’s debut into the segment represents a defining moment for the brand,” Sandeep Walia, Chief Operating Officer, Middle East & Luxury, Europe, Middle East & Africa, said.
Reservations for The Ritz-Carlton’s safari camp, which is set to open in August 2025, start at over US$2600 per night. Rates for the JW Marriott Mount Kenya are unavailable, and the camp is set to open at Solio Ranch in early 2026. Each will feature 20 luxury tented suites and multiple dining, wellness, and safari experiences.

Marriott International has been on an expansion spree across the world. As of early 2024 the chains’ development pipelines totalled a record 524 hotels and resorts with 92,193 rooms, a 9.2 per cent increase from 2023. In Africa, the hospitality conglomerate planned 138 hotels with over 26, 000 rooms, placing it far ahead of competitors such as Hilton, Accor, and Radisson Hotel Group.
