Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has appointed Wyckliffe Shamiah as the acting CEO following the end of Paul Muthaura’s tenure which comes to an end on 31st Dec 2019.
According to the board, the appointment takes effect from January 1, 2020, until the appointment of a substantive office holder by the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury and Planning following recommendations made by the board.

Mr Shamiah has over 22 years experience in the capital markets having held various roles at the CMA. Prior to his appointment, Shamiah was Director market operations since 2011 and a representative of the Authority to the Financial Stability Board Regional Consultative Committee for Sub Saharan Africa.
Shamiah has played a critical role in the development of a risk-based supervision regime at CMA, championed proactive investigations and enforcement, oversaw the rollout of new financial market infrastructure at NSE and CDSC. Furthermore, Shamiah currently chairs the sandbox review committee which coordinates the Regulatory Sandbox.
On top of that, Shamiah holds a Masters in Business Administration (Finance Option) from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Economics from Egerton University.
