Loon LLC has signed an overflight agreement with the Ugandan government that will see it operate in the stratosphere above the country.
In a statement, Loon says the agreement secures overflight approvals paving way for provision of internet in Kenya.
Moreover, Loon says that it is pursuing operational approvals from regional governments including Tanzania.
Loon has similar overflight agreements that enable the firm to extend internet access to rural and remote populations with limited mobile internet service. For instance, in South America, Loon provides baloon-powered internet in Peru.
Loon LLC is an Alphabet Inc. subsidiary working on providing Internet access to rural and remote areas. The company uses high-altitude balloons in the stratosphere at an altitude of 18 km to 25 km to create an aerial wireless network with up to 4G-LTE speeds. Their operational altitude is well above ground-based weather events.
