Longhorn Publishers Plc Enters Digital Content Space

Longhorn Publishers Plc has entered into a partnership to supply learning materials through its LoHo digital learning platform, providing a major boost to content creators.

    • •This Digital Learning Platform is a partnership between Longhorn Publishers and Safaricom, that will see the telco assemble learning tablets that target some 1.5 million students.
    • •On the other hand, learners will access educational content supplied through LoHo Learning, Longhorn’s freshly minted subsidiary.
    • •Under the partnership deal, Safaricom will assemble the tablets, provide data connectivity, and offer insurance in case of loss.

A tablet and the digital learning package will cost KSh 13,000, paid in monthly instalments for one year.

The move comes weeks after shareholders approved plans by Longhorn to register and set up a digital ventures studio in Kenya.

The LoHo platform is accessible through both standard Web browsers and Safaricom-assembled tablets. The LoHo Learning tablets have internet connectivity that blocks access to non-educational content, ensuring children’s safety.

Longhorn Publishers’ Goal for the Subsidiary

According to James Ongángá, LoHo Chief Executive, the digital learning platform offers a comprehensive suite of features tailored for learners, teachers, and partners, providing access to diverse educational content from multiple publishers and content developers.

Longhorn Publishers Board said the firm is on course to achieve its digital business goals with significant partnerships with telcos. This will provide a strong foundation for it to scale its digital revenues.

“We expect significant updates to the CBC Curriculum in 2024 following the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform. This provides us with an opportunity to develop improved content for our learners and teachers and grow our market share,” said the Board in a statement, “We are confident that the business will recover this year as we fully implement our lean business model, continue growing our share of CBC books and our digital strategy.”
